The EarthBound Fanfest starts on Monday. I think I’ll take this post to lay out what I’m planning to do as far as blogging the fanfest. With each Gameplay Point, I’ll have a blog post chronicling the day’s adventures. Impressions, parts of the game that I found particularly memorable, and thoughts on EB’s game design are all things that I would like to discuss. I do think that they compressed the introduction part of the game a little too much, but we’ll see how it goes. I’m staging Onett over three days starting a day ahead. The fanfest encourages people to submit art and there will be prizes. Considering the talent level of Starmen.net’s community is leagues above where I am, I don’t expect to win, but I’ll try to participate once a week.
My character names are chosen so that first timers following won’t get confused. I’m using the standard chosen four names. Here is my team for this fanfest:

Whoa, an actual anime related post! This is my first attempt at actually writing about anime. I also wrote 90% of this on a plane. These impressions are from having watched the first episode, so I’m probably going to go to at least three episodes to see how they plan out.

EarthBound Fanfest at Starmen.net
Starmen.net just announced their EarthBound Fanfest 2010, and as a huge fan of EarthBound, I am really excited. The fun starts October 25th and runs until the start of December. For those who don’t know, the EB Fanfest continues a long running tradition of community playthroughs at Starmen.net. In the past years, we have always played EarthBound together, a section of the game a day, though this year we did both Chrono Trigger and Mother 3 instead. See my Mother 3 Post for more on that. Last year was the first year with live video streams of people from the community playing. I thought it was really fun to watch people play and join in the discussions in the chat. The amount of talented art coming out of the community during the fanfest also never ceases to amaze me.
I guess what I find most fun about these things is discovering new things about the game every time. If any of you haven’t played EB before, it would be really fun for you to join in. My plans for the fanfest: Do a daily blog of the day’s playthrough sections. I haven’t done much blogging on this site, so this will be a great opportunity.
